Until they're all safe,, we will continue to rescue!
The majority of our horses are rescued from sale barns and would otherwise be headed to slaughter at the hands of kill buyers. A group of us attend the sales and outbid the kill buyers and/or purchase from them after the sale out of the kill pens.
We never bid against private buyers looking for a new horse. We like to hope those ones will be safe and loved.
We are always in need of donations to purchase as well as maintain these wonderful horses who deserve a second chance. All horses are put through a QT period and given any needed medications, vet and farrier work. Each horse is evaluated for his/her own specific needs as far as diet is concerned.
We then offer them as available to new homes with a first right of refusal contract.
We try to give the new potential owner, as much information regarding a specific horse as possible. However, due to the fact that we do not know what their history consisted of before we saved them, we can not express any guarantees regarding long term health and safety.
Any help you would like to give us in our efforts would be greatly appreciated by not only us as a group, but also the many equine lives we strive to save.

Meet Buddy {on right} and Heather {left}
These bay beauties were saved from auction on July 17th. They were scared to death and worked tirelessly to protect each other from everything. We believe that they are quite possibly long time herd buddies. They have come such a long way in such a short time. They are now trusting of humans and very relaxed with seperation from each other. They no longer run for "cover" when approached. They actually beg for the attention they were lacking in their lives.
BOTH ARE AVAILABLE
They will be placed either together or seperately. Email us for details on giving them a forever home.
Rescue Horses Present and Past
Breaking News From Drafty Acres regarding incoming horses
We were contacted last evening about 6 Draft & Draft cross horses in the local area who are in need of help. The elderly Amishman who owns them can no longer care for them due to health issues. We will be heading out this morning to pick them up and get them here for intake and assessment.
Updates will be posted ASAP. It is said that they are in dire need of worming, dental and considerable weight gain. They are on pature with absolutely no grass or hay.
9/18/09 Update
All are doing well and we have already placed the 2 geldings with a local gentleman who is a life long draft horse owner/enthusiast.
They have all been wormed and groomed extensively, de-burred and bathed. Feet are being worked on. We have introduced them to grain and they are eating free choice hay and loving it I must say!
Won't you please consider helping us with this beautiful group of needy drafts?
This is Kay-C. She is a 5 yr old mare with limited training at best. However she has a huge heart and a super kind eye. Is more than willing to please and will do anything asked of her.
Adoption Fee $300.00 with first right of refusal contract to an approved home only.
We first started calling this 5 yr old cutie-pie Leah but it just didn't fit her personality. Therefore she is now known as Lace-E and seems to better respond to it. She also is a sweetheart to handle and will be more than easy to take in the direction of your choice when fit. She seems to have a fantastic mind and eagerness to please.

Lay-Dee is a 6 yr old mare who is a heads up type of mare. She is halter broke and lightly started in harness although not completely broke. Not a hard girl to handle at all and should make someone who is willing to give her a chance, a wonderful project.
Adoption fee is $350.00 with a first right of refusal contract to an approved home only.
Finally we have Lily who is also a 6 yr old mare. Lily has not been started under harness at all. She does however show loads of potential and would make a sweet trail mount as she isn't quite as large as the others. Not in bad shape really, but does need to gain a few pounds on her topline. Super super nice to handle and has not displayed any issues of distrust or uncertainty.
Adoption fee is $350.00 with a first right of refusal contract to an approved home only.
All adoption fees will be put back into the rescues on site as well as any future incoming rescues we receive. The expenses on this group have been astronomical already with hay and feed as well as worming. The farrier work is being done on site by my husband who has offered to "fix" these hooves to save on rehabilitation expenses.
We are not purchasing hay at this time, however the extra hay we are currently feeding from our winter supply will cause us to have to replenish our supply in the very near future.
Due to the fact that roughage is so important to the health of horses, we do not feed any thing but the best to our rescues.
Received another call from the local area regarding the need to place a 2 yr old unbroke QH stallion. We will be making the needed arrangements and will post pics upon intake of this boy.
